When to Book Your Cruise Without Losing Sleep Over Prices

Cruise prices change more often than a teenager’s mood. Yesterday’s deal is today’s regret. Tomorrow’s bargain might be next week’s missed opportunity.

The sweet spot for booking is typically 60 to 90 days before sailing for Caribbean and short cruises. For Alaska, Europe, or other destination cruises, book 4 to 6 months ahead. Wave season runs January through March and offers the best combination of selection and price for the following year.

Here’s what actually matters more than timing. Book when you find a price you can live with and a cabin category that works for your budget. Cruise lines use dynamic pricing like airlines. The price you see today exists only today.

Stop checking prices after you book unless you enjoy self-inflicted misery. Most cruise lines offer price protection programs. If the price drops significantly after booking, they will often match it or give you onboard credit. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian have formal policies for this. Others handle it case by case.

The biggest mistake people make is waiting for a better deal that may never come. The second biggest mistake is booking a cruise they cannot afford hoping the price will drop. It might. It also might not. Plan accordingly.

If you want help sorting this out and someone to monitor prices after you book, that is literally what we do.

Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
