The Real Story Behind Cruise Cabin Selection

Your cabin category matters less than your specific cabin location. The cruise line wants you focused on interior versus balcony versus suite. Meanwhile, the smart money is on deck and position.

Avoid cabins directly under the pool deck or buffet. Those deck chairs start scraping at 6 AM. The same goes for cabins near elevators and stairwells. Traffic noise is constant.

Mid ship cabins feel less motion than forward or aft cabins. Physics wins every time. If you are prone to seasickness, spend the extra money to get closer to the center of the ship both lengthwise and vertically.

Lower decks are quieter but feel more motion. Higher decks have less motion but more noise from foot traffic above. Deck 7 or 8 often hits the sweet spot on most ships.

Connecting cabins have thinner walls between them. Even when they are not connected to your room, you will hear more from your neighbors. The same applies to cabins near crew areas or mechanical spaces.

Interior cabins on newer ships often have virtual balconies or interesting design features. Older ships park you in a windowless box and call it a day. The age of your ship matters more for interior cabins than any other category.

Guarantee cabins save money but eliminate control. The cruise line assigns your cabin at check in. You might end up anywhere from the perfect spot to directly under the basketball court. If cabin location matters to you, pay the extra money to choose your own.

If you want help sorting through the deck plans and finding the right cabin for your specific needs, that is literally what we do.
