Icon of the Seas launched this year as the world’s largest cruise ship. It holds 7,600 passengers when full. That is not a typo.
Royal Caribbean built this ship for people who want everything. Eight neighborhoods. Six water slides. The largest waterpark at sea. Multiple pools including an adults-only area. Rock climbing walls. Mini golf. An ice skating rink. Dozens of dining options. The ship is basically a floating theme park.
Icon works best for large families and groups who want different activities without leaving the ship. Grandparents can relax by the pool while teenagers zip down water slides. Everyone finds something to do. The ship has so many venues that it rarely feels overcrowded despite the passenger count.
The downsides are real though. Port days feel rushed because there is too much to do onboard. Specialty dining reservations book up fast. You will walk a lot just getting around the ship. Some people find it overwhelming rather than exciting.
Icon sails year-round from Miami to the Caribbean. Seven night itineraries hit the usual suspects like Cozumel and Perfect Day at CocoCay. The ports almost feel secondary to the ship experience. Royal Caribbean designed it that way on purpose.
This ship is not for cruise traditionalists who want intimate dining rooms and formal nights. It is for families who want controlled chaos and teenagers who get bored easily. If you want to experience the biggest ship in the world, Icon delivers exactly what it promises. Just know what you are signing up for.
If you want help figuring out whether Icon matches your cruise style, that is literally what we do.
Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
