Celebrity Edge Class Ships Are Still the Best Thing Celebrity Has Done

Celebrity launched the Edge class in 2018 and somehow made cruise ships interesting again. The Edge, Apex, Beyond, and Ascent all feature the same brilliant design that makes other ships feel dated.

The Magic Carpet alone justifies booking one of these ships. It’s a tennis court sized platform that moves up and down the side of the ship. Sometimes it’s a restaurant. Sometimes it’s an extension of the pool deck. Sometimes it’s your tender platform in port.

The Rooftop Garden replaces the usual top deck chaos with actual grass and trees. Real ones. The staterooms have infinite verandas where the entire wall of glass disappears. Your balcony railing becomes your living room window frame.

These ships work best for couples who want modern luxury without paying Regent prices. The restaurants are genuinely excellent. Le Petit Chef uses projection mapping to turn dinner into entertainment. Raw on 5 serves better sushi than most land restaurants.

The downside is Celebrity’s service inconsistency. Some crew members are fantastic. Others act like they’re doing you a favor. The ships also attract an older crowd that books specialty dining then complains about every course.

Celebrity just announced major upgrades to Eden Restaurant on all four ships. New menus. New entertainment. The changes roll out through 2024. If you’ve been waiting to try an Edge class ship, now you know they’re only getting better.
