Cruise News Roundup: What Happened This Week

The cruise industry does not slow down on weekends. Here is what made news over the past week and what it actually means if you are planning a sailing.

Royal Caribbean confirmed that Icon of the Seas will return for another full season in Miami starting in late 2025. The ship has been selling out consistently since its debut, and the demand has not softened. If you have been watching prices on Icon sailings and waiting for a dip, that strategy is not working in your favor. The ships that sell well tend to sell at full price until they do not have anything left to sell.

Carnival Corporation announced updates to its fleet deployment across several brands, with some repositioning of ships in the Mediterranean for the 2026 season. A few itineraries are shifting from Barcelona-based sailings to Rome. This matters if you already have something booked that touches either of those ports. It also matters if you are early in your planning, because homeport changes can affect flights and pre-cruise hotel nights in ways that add up fast.

Norwegian Cruise Line made headlines with an expanded Free at Sea promotion, now including higher beverage package tiers and more specialty dining credits on longer sailings. The framing is generous. The fine print is still fine print. Beverage packages on Norwegian can carry service charges and restrictions on what counts as included. The headline number looks better than the actual number once you read the terms. That is not a knock on Norwegian specifically. That is just how cruise promotions work.

None of these stories require immediate action on your part. But the Carnival repositioning is worth a closer look if you have Europe on your radar for 2026. Port changes in the Mediterranean ripple into logistics more than people expect.

If any of these stories affect a trip you are planning or thinking about, that is what we are here for.

Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
