Seabourn Is the Luxury Line Most People Have Never Heard Of

Seabourn carries a few hundred guests when a big ship carries several thousand. That is the whole idea. You are not one of the crowd because there is no crowd.

The ships are all suite and all ocean view. Every room has a window or a veranda. There is no such thing as a windowless cabin buried in the middle of the boat.

It is also close to all inclusive. Drinks are covered. Tips are covered. The stuff other lines nickel and dime you for is just part of the fare here. You still pay plenty up front, but you stop reaching for your card the moment you board.

The service is the part people talk about after they get home. The crew learns your name and your drink order fast. There are almost two crew members for every couple of guests, so someone is usually a few steps away without hovering.

Seabourn also runs two expedition ships built for cold and remote places. Those go to Antarctica and the Arctic and other spots where the destination is the point and the ship is your quiet base camp. If that is your kind of trip, it is a serious option and not a gimmick.

Here is the honest part. This is not a value cruise, and it is not trying to be. There are no water slides, no Broadway shows, no arcade for the kids. If you want a floating theme park, you will be bored and broke.

It is best for grown ups who want a small ship, real service, and quiet. Couples, retirees, and people who have done the big ships and want the opposite. It is a poor fit for families with young kids or anyone who measures a cruise by how much is happening at once.

You can absolutely book a luxury cruise on your own. You can also perform your own dental work. Results may vary.

If you are trying to figure out whether a small ultra luxury line is worth the price for your particular trip, that is literally what we do. We will tell you when it is worth it and when it is not.

Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
