Cruise News Roundup for the Week of September 7 2026

Three real stories moved the cruise world this past week. Two of them change how you earn perks and where a ship drops anchor. Here is what actually happened.

Carnival Cruise Line officially launched Carnival Rewards this week. It replaces the old VIFP Club. The big shift is that lifetime status is gone. From now on you requalify based on how much you spend during each qualification period, the same way airlines and hotels run their programs. Carnival’s leadership said the old lifetime model simply was not sustainable with all the new ships coming.

What this means for you. If you cruised Carnival for years to reach Diamond and then coasted, that free ride is over. Your spending from this past summer was counted toward a final VIFP status, and that becomes your starting level in the new program. Worth knowing before you assume your perks carried over untouched. If you are loyal to Carnival, check where you actually landed.

Next up, Princess Cruises is ending its decades long practice of stopping at Princess Cays. That is the private island resort on Eleuthera in the Bahamas that Princess has used for years. This is a genuine itinerary change, not a rumor. Some sailings you booked partly for that beach day may now call somewhere else or add a sea day instead.

What this means for you. If you booked a Princess cruise specifically for Princess Cays, pull up your itinerary and confirm it is still there. A private island day is a real reason people pick one sailing over another. When it disappears, the whole trip shifts a little. This is the kind of change that never gets a big announcement, so you have to look.

The third story is happier. Disney Cruise Line announced new itineraries sailing to Bermuda from Florida starting in 2028. Bermuda from a Florida homeport is a nice option for families who do not want to fly to New York or Baltimore to reach that pink sand.

Two of these three stories are the same lesson wearing different hats. Programs change and itineraries change, and the cruise line is not going to call your house about it. You booked a thing. Make sure the thing you booked is still the thing you are getting.

If you want someone to watch your booking for changes like these so you are not the last to know, that is literally what we do.

Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
