Virgin Voyages Is the Adults Only Cruise Line That Dropped the Rulebook

There are no kids on a Virgin Voyages ship. Not fewer kids. None. The whole fleet is eighteen and up, which means the pool deck sounds different than any mainstream cruise you have been on.

Virgin set out to build a cruise that does not feel like a cruise. There is no main dining room with assigned seating and a rotating menu. Instead you get a spread of sit down restaurants, and you eat where and when you want.

The pricing is where it gets interesting. Tips are already in the fare. So is basic wifi, so is still and sparkling water, and so are the restaurants. You are not signing a check at every dinner, and you are not doing drink package math at the gangway.

The vibe leans design hotel more than cruise ship. Think a tattoo studio at sea, a drag brunch, a record store, and a lot of black and red everywhere you look. If you want a midnight chocolate buffet and a formal night, this is not your boat.

Who is this for. Couples without kids, friend groups, and solo travelers who want a social ship that does not feel like a retirement cruise or a floating water park. The crowd skews younger than the big lines, though plenty of people in their fifties and sixties love it and fit right in.

Now the honest downsides. The itineraries lean Caribbean and Mediterranean, so this is not the line for a deep Alaska or a world cruise. The no kids rule is wonderful until you have a family trip and half the group is under eighteen. And the restaurant only setup with no buffet is great for some and a hassle for people who just want to grab a quick plate and go.

Virgin is a specific flavor. It is not trying to please everyone, which is exactly why the people who love it really love it. You can absolutely figure out if it fits you on your own. You can also guess your shoe size without trying anything on. I would rather measure.

If you want help sorting out whether this is your kind of ship, that is literally what we do.

Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
