Three stories caught my attention this week. Each one affects your future cruise plans in different ways.
Royal Caribbean announced their Icon of the Seas broke the cruise industry record for most bookings in a single day. The ship sold more cabins last Tuesday than any vessel in history. This happened during their Black Friday promotion when they dropped prices and threw in extra perks.
What this means for you: Icon sailings are filling up fast, but the real story is pricing pressure. When cruise lines need record booking days to fill ships, it usually means better deals are coming for flexible travelers.
Norwegian Cruise Line quietly updated their beverage package policy. Starting in February, their premium drink packages will exclude top-shelf liquors and reserve wines. These drinks will cost extra even if you bought the unlimited package. NCL says this brings them in line with other cruise lines.
The translation: your bar bill just got more complicated. If you drink Grey Goose or Dom Pรฉrignon, budget extra. Most travelers won’t notice since house brands and mid-tier options stay included.
Miami-Dade County approved a massive expansion at PortMiami. The project adds two new terminals and extends the port further into Biscayne Bay. Construction starts next year with completion planned for 2027. The expansion will handle the largest cruise ships being built today.
For travelers, this means more sailing options from Miami in four years. It also means construction chaos at an already busy port. If you sail from Miami in the next few years, plan extra time for potential delays and detours around construction zones.
The cruise industry keeps growing, but growing pains are real. If you want help sorting through which ships, ports, and timing work best for your situation, that is literally what we do.
