Every cruise ship serves pizza 24/7. Most of it tastes like cardboard with cheese.
Here’s the thing nobody mentions in those glowing cruise reviews. That late night pizza slice you grab at 2 AM? It’s been sitting under heat lamps since dinner service ended. The dough was made three days ago in a factory kitchen designed to feed 6,000 people.
But passengers keep eating it. They post photos of it. They rave about the convenience while secretly knowing their local gas station probably serves better pizza.
The cruise lines know this. They spend millions on specialty restaurants and celebrity chef partnerships. Then they serve cafeteria pizza in the main areas because people expect it to be free and available.
Want actually good pizza on a cruise? Order from the room service menu or find the hidden specialty pizzeria most ships have tucked away somewhere. You’ll pay extra but your taste buds will thank you. The buffet pizza exists for convenience, not flavor.
Sometimes the most available option isn’t the best option. This applies to more than just pizza on cruise ships.
Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
