A few things happened in the cruise world last week worth knowing about. Here is what caught my attention and what it actually means for you.
Royal Caribbean confirmed that Icon of the Seas will be joined by a fourth Icon-class ship, currently unnamed and set to debut in 2027. The class has been a commercial success for the line, and adding another vessel suggests demand for the mega-resort style is not cooling off. If you have been curious about Icon but have not pulled the trigger, competition within the class should eventually mean more departure options and possibly better pricing.
MSC Cruises announced expanded Caribbean itineraries for their 2026 to 2027 season, with MSC World America taking a prominent role. The ship is based out of PortMiami starting this spring, and MSC is clearly betting that American cruisers are ready to take them seriously. They have been the world’s largest cruise line by fleet size for a while now. They just have not had the same name recognition in the U.S. that Carnival or Royal Caribbean enjoy. That is changing.
Carnival Cruise Line made a quiet but notable policy update around their onboard credit program, tightening which purchases qualify and adjusting how credits apply at the end of a voyage. The details matter if you have future bookings that include onboard credit as part of a promotion. It is worth reviewing your booking confirmation or asking your travel advisor to check the fine print. This kind of change tends to go unnoticed until someone is standing at guest services wondering where their credit went.
None of these stories require immediate action from most travelers. But the MSC expansion and the Carnival policy change are the two I would pay closest attention to if you have a booking in the next 18 months. If you want a second set of eyes on your reservation or want to talk through any of this, that is exactly what we are here for.
