Cruise News Roundup

Royal Caribbean just announced their newest ship will have something called a “neighborhood concept.” Icon of the Seas will feature eight distinct areas when it launches in 2024. Each neighborhood has its own vibe and activities.

This matters because it means fewer crowds fighting over the same spaces. The surf simulator won’t be next to the quiet adults-only area. Revolutionary? No. Smart design? Absolutely.

Norwegian changed their beverage package rules again. Starting December 1st, all guests in the same stateroom must purchase the unlimited beverage package if one person wants it. No more splitting one package between couples.

This kills a popular money-saving strategy. Norwegian says it prevents sharing and abuse. Cynics might say it boosts revenue. Both things can be true.

Several Caribbean ports announced new pier construction projects for 2024. Barbados is expanding their cruise terminal. St. Lucia is building a second pier to handle larger ships.

More capacity usually means better experiences. Fewer tender boats. Shorter lines getting on and off the ship. These infrastructure improvements take years but pay dividends when they’re done.

The cruise industry keeps evolving whether we’re paying attention or not. Some changes help passengers. Others help profit margins. The trick is knowing which is which before you book. If you want help sorting this out, that is literally what we do.
