Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas Is Still the Biggest Thing Floating

Icon of the Seas launched in January 2024 as the world’s largest cruise ship. It holds 7,600 passengers when full. That is more people than live in most Ohio towns.

The ship runs seven night Caribbean cruises from Miami year round. Royal Caribbean built it with families in mind. There are six water slides including the tallest drop slide at sea. The ship has eight neighborhoods including a dedicated family zone and an adults only area called The Hideaway.

Icon works best for families with kids who get bored easily. There is always something happening. The ship has rock climbing walls, surf simulators, ice skating, and a full size basketball court. Parents can drop kids at adventure camps while they hit the spa or casino.

The downsides are real though. Moving 7,600 people around takes time. Elevators get crowded. Popular restaurants book up fast. Shore excursions sell out quickly because half the island shows up at once.

Icon also costs more than smaller ships. Interior rooms start around $1,200 per person for a week. Balcony rooms easily hit $2,000 per person before you add drinks, wifi, and specialty dining.

This ship makes sense if you want every amenity possible and do not mind crowds. It works well for multi generational families who need activities for ages 3 to 83. If you prefer intimate ships where you recognize faces by day three, Icon is not your ship.

Royal Caribbean knows what they built here. It is a floating theme park that happens to visit islands. If that sounds like your idea of vacation, Icon delivers exactly what it promises.
