The Cabin Selection Mistake That Costs You Sleep

Most people pick cruise cabins like they’re booking a hotel room. Big mistake. Hotels don’t move. Ships do.

Deck 1 sounds like a bargain until you realize it’s directly above the engine room. The constant vibration will turn your romantic getaway into a week-long massage you didn’t ask for. Deck 2 isn’t much better. Your floor will hum like a giant tuning fork.

The sweet spot sits between decks 6 and 8 on most ships. You’re high enough to escape engine noise but low enough to avoid the worst motion. Physics matters here. The higher you go, the more you’ll feel every wave. The lower you go, the more you’ll hear every machine.

Avoid cabins directly under the pool deck unless you enjoy the sound of deck chairs being dragged across your ceiling at 6 AM. Skip anything near the elevators. Those dings happen all night long. Nobody warned you about that part.

Balcony cabins on the port side face other ships in most Caribbean ports. Starboard side faces the ocean. Choose accordingly. You can absolutely save money with an interior cabin, but pick one midship and away from high traffic areas. Your sleep will thank you.

If you want help picking a cabin that won’t drive you insane, that is literally what we do.

Fair winds and following seas,
Captain Steve
