The Tattoo Parlor at Sea Is Real and It Is Only on One Cruise Line

You can get a tattoo on a cruise ship. A real one, from a real artist, in a real studio while the ship is moving.

The studio is called Squid Ink. It sits on deck 6 of Virgin Voyages ships, and it was the first tattoo parlor ever put on a cruise ship. Virgin partnered with World Famous Tattoo Ink to build it, and the whole thing leans hard into the old sailor tattoo tradition. Dark walls, neon signs, rock and roll energy. It is not a gimmick booth.

You will find Squid Ink on Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and Brilliant Lady. That is the entire fleet, so this is a Virgin thing and nobody else does it. Virgin is also adults only, so every sailor on board is 18 or older, which solves the age question before you ask it.

Pricing is what you would expect from a good shop on land. Flash designs off the wall start around $200. Custom work starts around $250 and climbs from there based on size, color, and detail. Bigger pieces run into the thousands, same as anywhere. Do your homework before you board. Bring a reference image and know where you want it, because deciding all of that on vacation with a drink in you is how regret happens.

Here is the part people skip past. The aftercare rules matter on a cruise more than they do at home. Fresh ink means no pool, no hot tub, no salt water, and no direct sun for about two weeks. On a ship that is basically all sun and all water, that is a real trade. Time it for the end of your sailing, or accept that your new tattoo means you are reading a book indoors while everyone else is at the pool. Your call.

It is a strange kind of souvenir. It takes up no suitcase space and it never ends up in a junk drawer. You either love that idea or it makes you deeply nervous, and both reactions are correct.
