Your cabin steward has access to information about you that would make a private investigator jealous. They know your dining preferences, your sleep schedule, and whether you tip in cash or add it to your bill.
They also know if you are celebrating an anniversary because it is in their system. They know if this is your first cruise or your fiftieth. They know if you booked the cheapest interior cabin or splurged on a suite.
Most importantly, they know how you treat service staff within the first 24 hours. That information gets shared faster than gossip at a high school reunion. Housekeeping, room service, and guest services all talk.
Be kind to your steward on day one. Not because you want extra towel animals or priority service. Be kind because they work 12 hour days for months at a time to make your vacation possible.
The passengers who treat their stewards well get better service for the entire cruise. The passengers who are rude get exactly what they deserve. Nothing more, nothing less.
Your steward remembers everything. Make sure they remember you for the right reasons.
