The Main Dining Room Still Exists and You Should Use It

Most first time cruisers think they need to eat at every specialty restaurant on the ship. They book dinner reservations like they’re planning a restaurant week in Manhattan.

The main dining room gets forgotten in all this excitement. That’s a mistake because it’s often the best value and experience on the entire ship.

You get multiple courses every night. The menu changes daily. The service is typically excellent because these servers have been doing this for years. You can order two appetizers if you want. Nobody cares.

The real advantage is consistency. Same table, same servers, same time every night if you want it. Your server learns that you hate mushrooms and love extra bread. By day three they’re bringing your preferred drink without asking.

Specialty restaurants charge $40 to $80 per person on top of what you already paid. The main dining room is included. You can literally eat lobster and filet mignon for no additional cost while people next door pay extra for the exact same quality food with different plating.

Book specialty restaurants if you want. But don’t skip the main dining room thinking it’s cafeteria food. It’s not. If you want help picking a cruise where the main dining room actually matters, that is literally what we do.
